Your Chance to Pick a Balloon for the 2023 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!

Your Chance to Pick a Balloon for the 2023 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!

The balloons, floats and performances during the Macy’s Day Parade has been a beloved tradition among New Yorkers and Americans nationwide for almost 100 years. This year, fans will get a say in which balloon will float through next year’s Parade!

In 2021, for the 95th Anniversary of the Macy’s Parade, the Parade created NFTs of the iconic Macy’s Parade balloons from the nine-decade run of the holiday march. This year, in addition to incorporating NFTs into the 96th anniversary celebration, the Parade is taking it one step further by hosting a Parade in the metaverse!

What does this mean?

This brand-new Parade experience in the web3 virtual world will be powered by the OnCyber metaverse and will be available here beginning on Thursday, November 24, 2022, at 9a.m. EST. What’s even better is that you won’t need a crypto wallet, a complicated log in, or a VR headset to attend. All you’ll need is a desktop or a mobile phone. Now you’ll be able to experience double the fun with the original Parade on TV or in person and an out-of-this-world version on your computer or mobile device.

What’s the difference?

The virtual Parade will include the iconic Macy’s Parade balloons, but also the galleries from five NFT projects (Boss Beauties, Cool Cats, gmoney, SupDucks, and VeeFriends). Attendees of the virtual Parade will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite project, and the winning project will become a real balloon for the 97th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2023!

How do I vote?

While official voting rules will not be available at until November 24, what we do know is that polls open at 9 a.m. EST on Thursday, November 24 and close at 11:59 p.m. EST on Sunday, December 4, 2022, and the first 100,000 voters will receive a free Macy’s NFT. We also know that you don’t need to purchase or have a claim to an NFT to vote, but if you want additional voting power, you could do one, two, or three of three things:

  1. If you own an NFT from any of the five projects that will be displayed at the virtual Parade (Boss Beauties, Cool Cats, gmoney, SupDucks, and VeeFriends), you will receive additional voting power.

  2. If you own a Macy’s 2021 Parade NFT, you will receive additional voting power based on the rarity of the NFT.

  3. If you’re feeling philanthropic this holiday season and would like to donate to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA), for $50, you can mint a virtual gallery pass to receive an OnCyber NFT gallery space (which will be airdropped on December 5). While we wait for more information to what exactly the pass provides we know that 100% of the purchase price for minting will benefit BBBSA and will also give you additional voting power for the virtual Macy’s 2022 Thanksgiving Day Parade.
